I’m a ‘retired’ zoologist and ecologist with over 35 years of experience working in zoology, wildlife ecology, and environmental science. I’ve always been passionate about these fields, and over the years I’ve built up a broad knowledge base and hands-on experience across a wide range of environments — from eastern Australia to the arid regions of Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, and South Australia, and even parts of Europe, Asia, and North America.
My work has included research and consultancy projects on everything from desert rodent populations to wildlife corridors and Koala ecology. I’ve also spent time teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses in ecology, conservation biology, and environmental science.
I’m a councillor, past-President, and Fellow of the Royal Zoological Society of NSW, and one of the co-editors of Australian Zoologist. I’m also a member of the NSW Independent Koala Expert Panel.
Since 2019, I’ve been lucky enough to help care for a beautiful property at Bucketty in the lower Hunter (NSW), which we’ve placed under a conservation agreement. It borders Yengo National Park and the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area, and is home to an incredible range of plants and animals — including a few koalas.
